Mobilians choose “Second Line Transit” as name for Mobile’s redesigned public transit system

April XX , 2026 (MOBILE, AL) — Via, the City of Mobile’s public transit provider, today announced that residents have selected “Second Line Transit” as the new name and brand for Mobile’s redesigned public transportation system. The name was chosen through community input in a public vote on the transit network’s next brand.

The survey drew strong engagement, with over 2,800 residents voting for their top choice. In the end, Second Line Transit won by a count of 1,575 to 1,258 over the competing concept, MoGo.

Second Line Transit is an homage to the long-standing second line traditions that are woven into the Mobile’s cultural fabric. The name also reflects a commitment to community-first transit, ensuring the system is built around who it serves. The new brand will debut alongside the fully redesigned transit network in July 2026.

In the meantime, The Wave will remain the name and brand of Mobile’s transit system until the full launch of Second Line Transit in July 2026. Riders can continue to use The Wave services as usual while Via works to finalize the new network design ahead of the summer debut.

The branding survey was part of a broader public engagement effort led by Via under the Mobile’s Transit Future initiative. Via continues to work closely with Mayor Cheriogotis and city leadership to design a faster, more reliable, and more connected transit network for Mobile, combining fixed route buses, trolleys, microtransit, and paratransit services.The transition process will continue to unfold over the coming months, and both Via and the City of Mobile remain committed to keeping the community informed of upcoming changes while soliciting further public input to ensure the new system meets the needs of all residents.
