Second Line Transit is an homage to the long-standing second line traditions that are woven into the Mobile’s cultural fabric.
The name also reflects a commitment to community-first transit, ensuring the system is built around who it serves. The name was chosen through community input in a public vote on the transit network’s next brand.
Why this is happening
Mobile’s bus system hasn't changed much in more than 20 years. But over the last two decades, our city has grown and changed a lot! The old system doesn't match what people need today. We are using modern technology and data to build a completely upgraded system that fits our growing city.
This new plan will give 48,000 more residents access to transportation and connect people to 25,000 more jobs.
What’s changing?
The Wave Transit is now called Second Line Transit.
You will start seeing new logos on the buses over the next few months.
A newly designed transit network.
Starting July 27, Mobile will have a newly designed transit network with updated routes and better connections.
Buses will come every 30–60 minutes.
We’re streamlining 9 high-frequency bus routes. This means your trips will be shorter and more direct.
Microtransit is coming to Mobile.
Microtransit is like the public transit version of ride-hailing. Simply use your app or call our booking line and request a ride. It’ll pick you up from near your location and drop you to where you need to go, or to bring you to your bus.
Improved access to transit across the region
Explore our service area map to discover expanded transit options across Mobile. With enhanced routes and on-demand zones, getting around town is now easier than ever. Check here for real-time coverage updates.

Are you a paratransit rider?
You or a caregiver will now have a choice of whether you want to book and track your rides over the phone or with the new Second Line Transit app.
What’s staying the same?
You won’t lose your access to transit.
Every old bus stop will still be covered by either a regular bus or be included in the new microtransit service area.
Fares are still $1.25 for a single ride.
Discounts will also remain the same for seniors, Medicare card-holders, and people with disabilities. Transfers between bus, trolley, and microtransit are free.
Keep riding with your current pass.
You can still use Cash, your MyWAVE Card, the MyWAVE app, and MyWAVE passes.
MAP access continues.
All current MAP riders will keep getting their MAP access.
You can still book your paratransit and microtransit rides over the phone by calling (251) 344-6600.
Microtransit is a shared ride service. Instead of a big bus that runs on the same route at the same times, microtransit lets you request a ride and a smaller van picks you up near where you are and takes you close to where you're going. Sometimes you’ll share the trip with other riders headed in the same direction.
You can use microtransit to get to bus routes, or to just get where you’re going!
